"ART IS A PROMISE WE MAKE TO OURSELVES TO LIVE LIFE TO THE FULLEST." -Norman Cousins
My name is Amy Small, and I'm so happy to serve as art teacher for Grades K through 8 here at St. James Regional Catholic School. I began teaching at St. James in 2013. In 2012, I established the Art Program at Ridley Park Presbyterian Church Nursery School and served as the art teacher there for 5 years. Prior to that, I worked for 9 years as a licensed and Board-certified art therapist with children and adolescents in Philadelphia and served as a clinical supervisor to graduate art therapy student interns. I am a graduate of both Cardinal O'Hara High School and the Pennsylvania Governor's School for the Arts. I earned my Bachelor's degree in Art Education with a minor in Psychology from Marywood University , and I am certified to teach students in grades K-12. I received my Master's degree in Creative Arts in Therapy from Hahnemann University (now Drexel University).
I'm very blessed to be married to my husband/best friend and am equally fortunate to be the mother of four great kids. My two sons, both St. James Alum (Class of 2018 and Class of 2019), are now attending Salesianum School in Delaware, and my twin daughters are currently 7th graders at St. James. My family and I are active members of St. Madeline's Parish. As leaders of St. Madeline's Pre-Jordan Ministry, my husband and I enjoy welcoming new families to the parish. As an SJR parent and teacher, I'm passionate about teaching your children in this wonderful Christ-centered environment that we call St. James Regional, and I look forward to nurturing their creativity and self-expression through art this year!
