This week we’re highlighting Miss Shannon Everett,a kindergarten teacher here at St. James Catholic School. Miss Everett joined St. James in 2015, mid-year when a kindergarten teacher position opened up. She started her teaching career in 2012 at Southeast Delco School District.
Miss Everett grew up locally, attending Ridley High School. She later attended West Chester University where she received a B.S. in Elementary Education.
As a kindergarten teacher, Miss Everett prepares her students to enter 1st grade. To effectively do this (and to keep things fun!), she is always researching activities and learning new ways to present new topics to students to keep them engaged. Additionally, she uses a “collaborative” approach to each student’s Catholic education by working with her aide, Mrs. Dooley, parents and her fellow teachers.
Miss Everett describes herself as “kind, funny and easy going.” She likes to play golf, which she says is something most people don’t know about her. She enjoys reading in her free time, most recently reading the prequel to The Hunger Games series (one of her absolute favorites!). In the past, she visited Italy and the Vatican, and hopes to one day return for a visit. She also hopes to visit Ireland one day.
When asked about her favorite thing at St. James Regional Catholic School, Miss Everett had this to say:
“My favorite things about St. James would be our whole community. I love working with my fellow faculty and staff, especially Mrs. Dooley! Also I really enjoy my class and former students! It is really great to see them grow!”
