This week we are celebrating Mr. Daniel Staiber. Mr. Staiber is our 8th-grade homeroom teacher at St. James Regional Catholic School. His areas of expertise vary. He teaches social studies to grades 6-8, English Language Arts to grade 8, and Religion to grade 8.
Mr. Staiber has been with the St. James family for three years and has been teaching for four. He received a B.A. in political science and history from Temple University, where he continued on to receive an M.Ed. in Secondary Education. Mr. Staiber brings the mindset that once students become interested in a topic or skill, “their learning extends beyond the classroom into a lifelong journey.” He understands the importance of educating students in the subjects they need to learn at each grade level, as well as fostering their individual interests and how that can lead them to a fulfilling life. To this end, he is very active in guiding our 8th-grade students as they make their journey to high school and find the right school for them.
Mr. Staiber would describe himself as “curious, adaptable and engaging.” These traits might explain his approach to teaching, as he encourages students to take interest in what they are curious about and to take that to another level of engagement.
Mr. Staiber is active both within the classroom at St. James and beyond. He helps oversee Student Council, the school newspaper, and our STEM Club. He also coaches our CYO basketball team.
In his personal time, Mr. Staiber enjoys traveling. Among the many sights to see, he would like to visit Athens, Greece to “visit the birthplace of democracy” as well as “the Holy Land to visit the areas where Jesus and the early Christians walked and worked.”
Mr. Staiber’s favorite thing about St. James “ is working with the students who are always so eager to learn. I also love working with a great group of people on the staff and faculty. A (distant) third choice would definitely be the hot lunches on Thursdays.”
